Meditation is a simple practice available to all, which can reduce stress, increase calmness and clarity and promote happiness. Learning how to meditate is straightforward, and the benefits can come quickly. It can be hard to still your mind initially, as we normally have a lot going on in our lives and it can be difficult to turn our mind off. It may be helpful to count, it can help you focus, and if you drift you can just return to counting when you are ready.
Another way you can do it, is to listen to music, it can help you stay in the moment. You could try doing a body scan exercise to relax all of the body to prepare you for the stillness ahead. You can add an affirmation if you have a particular goal in mind and you can use the exercise to concentrate on your inner goals. Many swear by using a mantra, and can be a good way to keep your focus. There are plenty of online guided meditations available on YouTube or you could borrow resources from the library that can help you to start your meditation practise.
